Winter 2009/2010

Wow, what a winter this has been already.  No ride time in October, November or December.  I'm getting edgy and so are my horses.

Because I am on the verge of going 'Stir Crazy', I thought I'd share a little of what is happening in our neck of the woods up on the "Northern Tundra".

Things started getting ugly on December 8, 2009 when we received a lovely 8 plus inches of snow.  Nothing that our snowblowers couldn't handle at that point, plus the sun was shining.

the snow fence I put up was doing it's job....for the time being

goodbye round pen

Blech Blech Blech

just got done snow blowing the drive....fun fun!!

Now comes the 'Christmas 2009 Storm  This started out with a nice coating of Ice on 12/23/2009

Day 2

The ice was followed by snow, wind and bone chilling temps

Goodbye Driveway!!!

Newt & Beans didn't leave the tack room for 2 days!!

Is it still blowing??!!

The circle drive is slowly disappearing too

Day 3 of 'The Christmas 2009 Storm'

there is a table under all that snow

looks like my trailer is buried until summer!

We have a newbie that found us. Her name is Sprite.

If I was a 'bad' dog, I'd be over this fence in a flash!

just a corner of the snowfence is now visible....not good news for the driveway

back breaking work...or leave it to a snow blower

Day 4

The sun was such a tease that day!

snowed in and getting 'clausterphobic'

watch the fence disappear in the next set of storms

Day 5

The wind finally quit blowing so our neighbor could dig us out.  Ran out of gas for the snowblowers, don't think they could have made it through the drifts though.....found out later that our good one was only working on one side...broke the shear pin.  No wonder it wouldn't go through the drifts very well.....shoulda been a blonde??

Neighbor Tom to the rescue...almost didn't make it due to the ice under the snow

Our next storm hit January 6, 2010.  More wind, lots of snow and bitter cold yet again.  My horses have been living in their blankets since before Christmas.  This storm was bad due to the bitter cold.  It hard packed the drifts to where I could walk on top of them without falling through.

This is our circle drive...buried!!

Where's the driveway?????

oh wait!! it's between the trees someplace right??

Sun Dogs

Day 2  getting dug out!!!!

notice the dark spot at the end of our driveway?  IT is a CAR that got stuck in the blizzard from the night before.

whoo hoo the calvary has arrived!!

nope, no how would the snowblowers have gotten through that drift!!

tackling the circle drive now!

Day 3 of this....subzero temps overnight led to hoarfrost on the trees and whiskers

ok, just had to play a little!!!

January 12, 2010

more hoarfrost.  we've had days of fog now...when will we see the sun again???

pooooor Princess!!!!!!

January 18, 2010....more hoarfrost.  I need to see the sun soon!!!!

Moj has already lost it....he's trying to gas himself

This is the culvert....going to be ugly when it thaws out!!

AJ got stuck in the ravine and had to 'jump' to safety.

oh!! LOOK!!! a blade of green grass........

BLECH!! I'M SICK OF WINTER ALREADY

Horses in the Mist.......

wind does amazing things

could almost be a Christmas card

Dreamin' of nicer days!
